After a few years collaborating with the electronic ensemble Nuhg, Merino releases on Audiotalaia its fourth release as a solo project. Environment, at first hearing, comes as a dark ambient release but after a careful listening one can realise that we are in front of something else. Effectively, Merino presents a three track album full of nuances and details that provides us with a new perspective. It seems that even that Merino seeks to find a space somewhere in between dark industrial sounds and a more electroacoustic approach in terms of composition. This situation that a few years back seemed impossible now a days its happening all the time. A Quiet Norway is a very good example of this kind of collective work. Rune Martinsen an Jean Montag joined forces a few years back to unveil a collaborative project that now we know as A Quiet Norway. Between Martinsen and Montag there are 3.250 km distance all across Europe. Despite the distance and weather conditions (In that part of Norway snow covers the place for a long time every year) they manage to confront their own perspectives and tastes and match them together creating a very interesting project that ranges from noise to, in this case, field record...

He came with his wife Almudena to perform in Valencia at La Clínica Mundana. I didn’t have so much clues about his work. By that time I had rushed to hear his bast oeuvre and I couldn’t get a grasp of what he would perform on this tiny space in Valencia. His concert arrived and it was a surprise, a blast of energy and a continuous flow of different ambiences, textures, drones and energy, pure sound energy floating over the space. Using an extremely aseptic mis-en-sene Nieto managed to deliver a 30 minutes set that muted the space and made all think that there is no need for extras on a laptop concert, nor visuals or lights or whatever, if the sound is good that’s all you need.
